Niedersachsen-Technikum 2024

For many female students, a very important phase in their lives is about to begin: the decision, "What should I do after school?" Numerous possibilities and opportunities are available—and often, this itself is the problem. At the same time, career choices are still burdened by entrenched gender roles and associated stereotypes. In 2019, the proportion of women among first-semester students in STEM subjects (Mathematics, Natural Sciences, Computer Science, and Engineering) remained low at 34 percent.

To offer young women interested in science and technology insights into professional life and STEM studies, TU Clausthal participates in the Niedersachsen-Technikum. This established state program provides female students with career orientation. The offer is open to all (specialized) high school graduates, regardless of their area of focus, who are still undecided in their career choice or want to gain initial insights. Over six months, students can carry out a project at a company four days a week and experience university life one day a week. This period can also be credited towards preliminary and industrial internships required for technical degree programs at TU Clausthal. Furthermore, students have the opportunity to take exams for attended courses and earn their first credit points. There is also ample time to get a clear picture of studying in Clausthal and to appreciate the benefits of personal support from the teaching staff.
