2nd quarter

Reporting period April 1 - June 30, 2023

Gender equality work

  • The current round of the WiMINToring mentoring program for young female scientists has already reached the halfway point. To mark the occasion, an event was held last Friday, June 16, 2023, to evaluate the developments in the mentoring program to date for both mentors and mentees. The feedback so far has been very positive and the mentoring relationships have developed successfully. The last item on the program before the summer break was the workshop on career planning for our mentees.
  • On the last weekend in June, the second annual meeting of our women's network "Women&Science at Clausthal University of Technology" took place. The annual meeting started on June 30, 2023 with a networking evening on the topic of "Equal Opportunities Careers with Children". Ms. Schenk-Mathes gave the welcoming address and the members of the network presented the activities and developments of the past year. On the second day, July 1, 2023, further program items took place, including board elections and a workshop on confident public speaking. The press release for this event is available here can be found here.
  • On April 21, 2023, the WomenPower career congress for women took place for the 20th time as part of HANNOVER MESSE. In addition to the program of lectures, panel discussions and workshops, the accompanying exhibition offers the opportunity to find out about career prospects, studies, coaching and mentoring offers as well as other labor policy topics and trends in the STEM field. This year, TU Clausthal once again distributed free tickets to the WomenPower Career Congress to interested female students. This year, TU Clausthal had a stand at the fair for the first time to promote our university and, above all, our degree programs.
  • This year's Girls'Day and Boys'Day (Girls' and Boys' Future Day) took place on April 27, 2023. This is a good opportunity to arouse students' interest in STEM degree programs and to promote Clausthal University of Technology. Clausthal University of Technology has regularly taken part in this nationwide event since 2002. Once again this year, numerous institutes and facilities at Clausthal University of Technology took part in this day of action. Our university prepared 12 offers with around 80 places and the marketing coordinator, Ms. Wruck, together with the RZ team, made video recordings of various projects (including the Clausthal Center for Materials Technology, the University Library, the Research Center for Energy Storage Technologies and the Institute of Chemical and Electrochemical Process Engineering) for Girls'Day and Boys'Day. The video with impressions of this year's Girl's and Boy's Day at TU Clausthal can be found under this link.
  • On Friday, May 12, 2023, a practical workshop was held for our female students on the topic of "Confronting sexism confidently and communicating sexual transgressions" . This workshop provided practical impulses for individual options for action against sexism in everyday life. The participants learned not only how to stand up to inappropriate behavior, boundary violations and assaults, but also how to prevent them. The response was good and we plan to offer the workshop regularly once a year.
  • This year, the Goslar District Sports Association, in cooperation with the equal opportunities offices of Clausthal University of Technology, the district of Goslar and the mountain and university town of Clausthal-Zellerfeld, organized a women's sports day, which took place for the third time on the sports grounds of Clausthal University of Technology. The event took place on Friday, June 9, 2023 and all women from the university and the region were cordially invited. It was a very nice afternoon with almost 50 participants and a colorful range of sports and health activities.
  • On June 15, 2023, this year's Health Day took place under the motto "We BACK TOGETHER!". The Equal Opportunities Office took part by offering advice on the topic of "Ergonomics in the workplace", among other things.
  • The Female Professors Program is the central instrument of the federal and state governments to promote gender equality at universities. The aim of the funding program is to dynamically increase the number of female academics in top positions in the field of science towards parity. After analyzing the upcoming appointments, we have decided that it makes the most sense for our university to apply for the second call of the Women Professors Program.

Diversity management

  • The International Day against Homophobia, Biphobia, Inter- and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT for short) has been celebrated annually on May 17 since 2005 to demand respect and tolerance for the diversity of people in areas of sexual orientation or gender identity worldwide. TU Clausthal took part in this day of action again this year. The queer community in the Oberharz organized an open-air concert on the market square and Ms Schenk-Mathes, as Executive President, gave the welcoming address. The market church was illuminated in rainbow colors and the main building of Clausthal University of Technology and other masts on campus were decorated with rainbow flags.
  • German Diversity Day took place on May 23, 2023. Clausthal University of Technology is once again taking part in this day of action. We once again set an example for diversity and, as in previous years, had a diversity-related slider displayed on the main page of the university website.

Family service

  • Since June 1, 2023, the coordination position in the Family Service has been filled by Ms. Kirsten Wiemker. Ms. Wiemker is the previous coordinator of the Lower Saxony Technical Center. This position was advertised for a limited period until February 29, 2024.
  • The sponsorship award for outstanding academic or student achievements during the family phase has been announced again; the call for applications has gone out to all employees and students by email. The proposals (informal application, information on the challenging family situation, description of the special academic achievements) can be submitted until August 15, 2023 and we look forward to receiving as many applications as possible. The sponsorship award is endowed with prize money of 1,000.00 euros.
  • As part of our project "Expansion of the family-friendly infrastructure at Clausthal University of Technology", which is financed by the DFG equal opportunities funds of Prof. Turek's FOR 2397-2, the toilets in as many buildings on our campus as possible are to be equipped with changing tables. The locations of the changing tables are to be placed on the campus map. A request was sent to the heads of the institutes and research centers in this regard and we have already received a lot of feedback.
  • As planned, two weeks of vacation care, the so-called Children's Summer University, will be offered during the summer vacations. These are always the two full weeks at the edge of the school vacations in Lower Saxony. The first week runs from July 10 to 14, 2023 and the second week from August 7 to 11, 2023.
  • There has been a change of staff at the "Uni-Mäuse" daycare center. On June 30, 2023, we said goodbye to the two previous daycare staff Angela Perschke and Janine Bartsch. We would like to thank them for their many years of service! With the support of the district of Goslar, we were able to recruit two experienced childminders to succeed them: Manuela Meierdierks and Michael Molitor, who will ensure a seamless transition for childcare during the vacation period. The two new childminders will officially start at the Uni-Mäusen on August 15, 2023, meaning that eight children can be looked after there again.
