Gender equality work
- On April 19, 2024, the kick-off event of our mentoring program WiMINToringfor female Master's students took place with the announcement of the mentoring tandems. This program focuses on the transition from studying to working life and career development. The application period ended and we have 11 participants in the program. The program is aimed at female Master's students at our university and takes place every two years, alternating with the mentoring program for young female academics. The program includes mentoring discussions in tandem as well as a varied accompanying program with workshops on personal skills development, career events and networking evenings.
- On the last weekend in June, the annual meeting of the "Women&Science at TU Clausthal" women's network took place, which has been in existence for three years and has developed successfully during this time. The first day included a networking evening with a keynote speech by Deborah Ruggieri on the topic "I determine my own status! Myths, power and status games in science". On the second day, the members went into the keynote content in greater depth in a workshop. Prof. Schenk-Mathes opened the evening with her welcoming address, emphasizing the successes of the women's network to date. The annual meeting was once again very inspiring. The women's network "Women&Science at TU Clausthal" is open to all female scientists at our university and looks forward to welcoming new members.
- This year's Girls' and Boys' Day took place on April 25, 2024. Clausthal University of Technology has been taking part in this nationwide campaign for over 10 years. This year, around 15 different institutes and facilities at Clausthal University of Technology put together a colorful program with around 140 places, where we were able to welcome many curious students to our university. They were given an insight into the range of subjects at TU Clausthal. Many thanks to everyone who made this day possible.
- The largest specialist congress FEMWORX on female leadership in the STEM sector as part of the Hannover Messe offered a unique platform for networking, knowledge exchange and career development. TU Clausthal participated again this year with a study sponsorship and provided 30 free tickets for our female students. The Equal Opportunities Office also presented the Lower Saxony Technical Center together with other coordinators from universities in Lower Saxony.
- The Family Service of our Equal Opportunities Office organized a play area including a bouncy castle and face painting station as part of the TU Campus Festivaland 35th Campus Run on 4 June 2024. Flexible childcare was also available for the participants of the run. Many of the young children from our day care centers took part in the children's run. It was a day full of joint activities, discussions and, above all, lots of fun.
- On Friday, June 7, 2024, the fourth Women's Sports Day took place on the sports grounds of the Sports Institute. The Women's Sports Day is an event organized by the Goslar District Sports Association in cooperation with the equal opportunities offices of Clausthal University of Technology, the mountain and university town of Clausthal-Zellerfeld and the district of Goslar. One of the main aims of the Women's Sports Day was to raise awareness of Clausthal University of Technology and the wide range of activities offered by the Institute of Sport and the regional clubs and to draw attention to the issue of equality, including in relation to sport. It was a successful event in the best weather and we would like to thank the Sports Institute for the great cooperation and support.
- The results of the Niedersachsen-Technikum alumni survey were presented on June 25, 2024. This survey, conducted on behalf of the Lower Saxony State University Conference (LHK), collected data from over 850 former participants in 2023. The aim was to ascertain the whereabouts and development of the technicians as well as their retrospective assessment of the orientation phase. Prof. Barbara Schwarze, Head of the Central Coordination Office of the Lower Saxony Technikum, and Judith Elisabeth Bräuer, Central Program Coordinator, presented the results of the alumni survey and discussed them with the participants.
Diversity management
- On April 8 and 9, 2024, the meeting of the nationwide network Diversity at Universities took place at RWTH Aachen University, in which TU Clausthal is active. The discussions focused on important topics that are currently occupying German universities. These included the successful implementation of diversity strategies, dealing with anti-Semitism and Islamophobia as well as the prevention of abuse of power. The event provided a platform for a lively exchange and the development of joint solutions for these pressing challenges in the university landscape.
- Once again this year, TU Clausthal actively participated in the International Day Against Homo-, Bi-, Inter- and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT) on May 17, 2024. Our main building shone in the colors of the rainbow, while the rainbow flags were hoisted on the poles in front of the library and the main building. In addition, the entrance to the main building and the canteen were decorated with rainbow motifs. We also participated with a stand at the IDAHOBIT OpenAir on the market square.
These gestures serve as a visible sign of our responsibility to bring this important topic of equality and acceptance even more strongly into society.
- On German Diversity Day on May 28, 2024, Clausthal University of Technology set an example for diversity and inclusion in the world of work. Under the motto "Clausthal University of Technology flies the flag for diversity", we presented a picture on our social media and as a slider on our homepage that stands for our welcoming culture, diversity and deeply rooted sustainability concepts.
- On June 13, 2024, a short workshop on "Diversity, Inclusion & Access - Facing and Overcoming Critical Incidents" was held as part of the 7th International Staff Exchange Week. The workshop, which was included in the International Staff Exchange Week program for the second time, was designed and conducted by Angela Binder. This workshop offered participants from various countries such as Thailand, Brazil, Romania, Poland and Turkey a valuable opportunity to discuss diversity and equality and to make the corresponding activities of our university visible.
- A survey on digital accessibility at universities was initiated by the Federal Monitoring Agency for Accessibility of Information Technology (BFIT-Bund) as part of the Higher Education Forum on Digitalization, supervised by the HRK. The main aim of this survey is to determine the current status of the implementation of digital accessibility at German universities. On completion of the study, the participating universities will receive a benchmarking data sheet that will enable them to review and improve their own positioning.
Clausthal University of Technology actively participated in this survey and submitted its data.
Family service
- Clausthal University of Technology (TUC) recently resumed its popular preschool program in collaboration with the mountain and university town of Clausthal-Zellerfeld and the town's daycare centers. From April 23 to 26, 2024, the children were not only given a first insight into scientific and technical subjects, but were also inspired by science and technology through play. The TUC is proud to make a contribution to early childhood education in the region with this project and looks forward to continuing its successful collaboration with the mountain and university town of Clausthal-Zellerfeld and the local daycare centers.
- The first week of our vacation care program for primary school children, the so-called Children's Summer University, took place from 24 to 28 June 2024 and was a complete success. The children experienced an exciting week of child-friendly lectures, creative crafts, sporting activities and fun games. The second week of the Children's Summer University will take place in the last week of the Lower Saxony school vacations and is already fully booked. A big thank you goes to all lecturers and supervisors from numerous institutes and facilities of our university who have contributed to the success of the Children's Summer University.
