L’Oréal Germany, the German UNESCO Commission, and the German Humboldt Network are searching for outstanding "early career" female scientists from the natural sciences and STEM fields for the "For Women in Science" award. The award is endowed with 25,000 euros per laureate and can be used flexibly for research projects, international stays, or supportive measures such as childcare or household assistance.
To be eligible to apply, candidates must have a valid employment contract or scholarship at a German university or non-university public research institution with at least 50% of a full-time position. The duration of the contract or scholarship must be at least twelve months from the date of application. Applications are open to female doctoral candidates in their final year, post-docs, habilitands, or junior professors within four to six years of completing their PhD. The natural sciences are considered broadly, including engineering, geosciences, agricultural sciences, and medicine. Inter- and transdisciplinary research approaches are explicitly encouraged.
The nationality of applicants is not a consideration. Female scientists with children are explicitly encouraged to apply. In cases of equal scientific excellence, the compatibility of science and family will be considered as an additional criterion. Alongside excellent research achievements, special commitment to the "third mission" will also be included in the evaluation. Detailed information on application criteria and the application form is available at www.fwis-programm.de. The application deadline is March 10, 2025. The award ceremony will take place in September 2025.
