Gender equality work
- A few weeks ago, the DFG changed the basic structure of proposals in some programs and also announced that this change will sooner or later be reflected in all other proposal templates, currently only in the research grants, research groups, priority programs and the Emmy Noether Program - later also in Research Training Groups, Collaborative Research Centres, etc. In addition to the restructuring, a new chapter has been created called "Relevance of gender and/or diversity". Previously, they were included in the DFG proposals in the equal opportunities section under the chapters "Gender Equality for Researchers" and "Measures to Ensure Equal Opportunities". In order to offer our applicants the best possible support, the staff of the Research Funding Office and the Equal Opportunities Office are planning further training for applicants at Clausthal University of Technology. Further information from the DFG on the relevance of gender and diversity in research can be found here.

Family service
- In the current situation, many of our employees are working from home and our students are studying from home. This situation places a particular burden on people with care responsibilities. For this reason, the Children's Online University was launched on April 29, 2020, with the aim of relieving the burden on parents and bringing knowledge closer to children in a playful way. The Children's Online University includes videos or instructions for scientific experiments, child-friendly lectures, handicraft instructions, sports exercises and readings of children's books for preschool and primary school children. Beyond the Corona period, the aim of the Children's Online University is to develop a child-friendly presentation of the broadest possible spectrum of research at our university and in this way to draw children's attention to Clausthal University of Technology. We therefore ask all our employees to participate actively. We are open to your ideas and formats for presenting TU Clausthal's research topics to children digitally. The press release can be found here.
- With the launch of the Children's Online University on April 29, 2020, TU Clausthal's Family Service also initiated the Presidential Board's painting and crafting competition with the theme "What is your dream job?" for children aged 0 to 12 years, divided into three categories: up to 3 years, 4 to 7 years and 8 to 12 years. The painting and craft competition was intended to give the children a bit of fun and enjoyment during this challenging time and to support the parents. The response was very positive and a total of 27 pictures were submitted to the Family Service by the closing date of May 31, 2020. On June 12, 2020, the Executive Committee decided on the winners of the painting competition. The press release can be found here.
- Since May 5, 2020, our large daycare center "Uni-Mäuse" has been providing emergency care for the system-relevant professions. We are in close contact with the district of Goslar. If the figures remain the same, full operation is still possible in May. However, this is always subject to change based on the COVID-19 figures and the current order from the state of Lower Saxony.
- The Family Service offers students with children or children up to the age of 12 flexible childcare during exams and compulsory courses with attendance in the digital summer semester 2020, as many childcare facilities have not yet reopened due to the ongoing measures to contain the COVID-19 pandemic.
- In the second quarter of 2020, as every year, there should be a first aid course for children. The course is always very popular and well attended. Unfortunately, the DRK Goslar has informed us that it is not possible to offer this course in digital format, so it has to be canceled due to the COVID-19 situation.
