2nd quarter

Reporting period April 01 - June 30, 2021

Gender equality work

  • The current round of the WiMINToring mentoring program has reached the halfway point. In May, the second workshop took place with Mr. Simon Hauser on the topic of "Recipient-oriented and clear communication". In June, we carried out the interim evaluation of our program. The mentors and mentees were each accompanied by their trainers. The feedback on the program was very positive and both the mentees and the mentors benefit from the mentoring process.
  • The women's network "Women&Science TU Clausthal" meets regularly on a monthly basis and works on topics related to networking and career development. On June 16, 2021, the network evening took place with the topic "Career Path: Top Management". We were able to attract a top-class speaker, Ms. Christine Regitz, a top manager from SAP. Our women's network is also active as a group on the LinkedIn platform.
  • Our coordination office is currently carrying out intensive advertising measures for the Lower Saxony Technikum state program. Regular online information events have been held since April 7, 2021. At the same time, our coordinator is in close contact with the regional companies, three of which have been acquired as new partner companies, as well as with the partner schools, which increases the regional visibility of Clausthal University of Technology. In order to raise awareness of the Niedersachsen Technikum at Clausthal University of Technology, an image video was produced with the participation of the Computer Center featuring a former technician and current doctoral student at Clausthal University of Technology. Here you can find the image video of the Niedersachsen Technikum.
  • On April 22, 2021, the nationwide Girls'Day and Boys'Day (Girls' and Boys' Future Day) took place in digital format. This year, TU Clausthal took part in this campaign for the 20th time and participated with five offers.
  • Two offers for career development were available to our female students and young female scientists this year. The WomenPower specialist congress took place on April 16, 2021 as part of the Hannover Messe as a digital event. WomenPower is one of the largest specialist congresses on the promotion of women and gender equality in STEM professions. This year, 50 free tickets were available for participants from our university. Even though the WomenPower career congress is originally aimed at women, registrations from male students are expressly welcome. The second offer is the women&work career fair, which took place in digital format for the first time this year on May 26, 2021. The second digital women&work will be held this year on October 23, 2021. The women&work is free of charge.

Diversity management

  • As part of the diversity audit, an operational workshop was held on May 31, 2021 with all those involved at our university under the moderation of our external auditor. In this workshop, specific tasks were defined with the milestone plan for the areas of action and objectives identified in the previous workshop. Responsibilities were also clarified. The next workshop as part of the diversity audit will take place on November 8, 2021.
  • On June 30, 2021, Clausthal University of Technology hosted the second Diversity Forum as part of the Diversity Audit. All participating universities came virtually to Clausthal University of Technology to present and discuss the current status of the audit process. The main topic of the forum was intersectionality and Prof. Bührmann from the University of Göttingen gave the keynote speech as an expert in this field. The press release can be found under the link
  • In February 2021, TU Clausthal, together with other universities and educational institutions in German-speaking countries, received a request to participate in a survey on dealing with LGBTIQ+ diversity, to which TU Clausthal agreed. The participating universities were classified in the LGBTIQ+ Campus Index. The aim of this ranking is to provide (prospective) students with guidance on which educational institutions are already implementing measures for an LGBT+ inclusive campus culture. The participating universities were classified in the LGBTIQ+ Campus Index. The first edition of the LGBTIQ+ Campus Index was published on June 1, 2021. TU Clausthal achieved 39.4% of the maximum score and was ranked 38th out of 62, which is a good result (the average is 45.4%, for the smaller universities 37.7%). The results can be found here.
  • This year's Diversity Day took place on May 18, 2021. This year, our university once again took part with a campaign and drew attention to the topic through its online presence (a banner on the main TU Clausthal website and an image for the TUC's social media).

Family service

  • The new large daycare center "Uni-Luchse", a joint facility of Clausthal University of Technology and the Studentenwerk OstNiedersachsen, started operations on May 17, 2021. Two childminders look after the new children. The outdoor area of the new large day care center is currently being built. Mr. von Frieling, Deputy Managing Director of Studentenwerk OstNiedersachsen, has made an introductory video together with Prof. Schenk-Mathes. You can find the video here. If the corona situation allows, there will be an opening ceremony, and the baby welcome may also be held at this time. However, if it is not possible to hold an opening ceremony, the baby welcome will be held digitally.
  • The "Children's Summer University" summer vacation care is scheduled to take place from August 23 to 27, 2021. The planning for this is currently underway, as it is not yet entirely clear whether the vacation care will have to take place outside or whether it will be possible to visit Clausthal University of Technology after all. This depends on the decisions made by the crisis management team.
  • In July 2021 - as every year - the sponsorship award for outstanding student or academic achievement during the family phase will be announced. We look forward to receiving many applicants. The deadline for applications is August 15, 2021.
